Eleftherios (Terry) Stavropoulos is an EU regional policy expert . He is currently working at the Joint Research Center of the EU on territorial and urban development. He is contributing to the Rural Tool Kit the Start Up Villages and other projects that the JRC has that are relevant for LAGs and rural areas. Before JRC, Terry was for 6 years in DG REGIO and was part of the team that prepared the LTVRA. In DG REGIO he worked on issues such as Territorial Impact Assessments, rural, insular, mountainous and sparsely populated areas, localisation of SDGs etc
His experience in Cohesion Policy dates from 2000 when he started working in designing the Regional Operational Programme for South Aegean and the Leader for the Cyclades islands. He became then advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece and the PM during the negotiations for the MFF and later as Councillor at the Greek Permanent Representation to the EU he has negotiated Cohesion Policy regulations and the approval of the Greek programmes for 2007-2014. As Special Secretary of Greece for competiveness and entrepreneurship 2007-2009 he and his team launched many innovative actions that were acknowledged by the Commission as best practises.
