Isabel Carvalhais is a Portuguese Member of the European Parliament. With a degree in International Relations from the University of Minho, and a Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Coimbra, she received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Warwick, in the United Kingdom, in 2004.
She began her academic career as a Trainee Assistant at the University of Minho, through a public competition in 1997, and since 2018 she has been an Associate Professor at that same institution, at the School of Economics and Management, linked to the Department of International Relations and Public Administration.
Since September 2019 and until 2024, she has been on leave from service in order to fully fulfill her duties as MEP in the European Parliament.
